Research

Northeastern engineers lead the way in interdisciplinary research. Collaborations with biologists, chemists, physicists, geologists, and physicians are producing new answers to problems like tumor detection, soil remediation, and emissions control. Explorations with industrial partners are making better, smarter products in industries from telecommunications to automotive manufacturing.

The College of Engineering is home to eight primary research centers:

  • Center for Ultra-wide-area Resilient Electric Energy Transmission Networks (CURENT)
  • Center for Health Organization Transformation (CHOT)
  • Puerto Rico Testsite for Exploring Contamination Threats (PROTECT)
  • New England Veterans Engineering Resource Center (NE-VERC)
  • Versatile Onboard Traffic Embedded Roaming Sensors (VOTERS)
  • Center for High-rate Nanomanufacturing (CHN)
  • Awareness and Localization of Explosives-Related Threats (ALERT)
  • Bernard M. Gordon Center for Subsurface Sensing and Imaging Systems (CenSSIS)

In addition to these centers, COE has several major research initiatives and laboratories.
